NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - A road in Nelson and Augusta counties is giving large trucks trouble as they are traveling over the Blue Ridge Mountains at Reids Gap.
Wintergreen Fire & Rescue Chief Curtis Sheets says they have seen an increase in the number of trucks getting stuck on Route 664 on the sharp turns located near the top of the mountain.
Rt. 664 is the road leading up to Wintergreen Resort and across the Blue Ridge Parkway into Augusta County
The concern is the trucks getting stuck cause the road to be closed every time they are needed to be towed out.
“I don’t think that the information was necessarily getting passed back and forth about how common this was happening, that’s when we started posting it on our Facebook page. We kind of became a clearing house, and it has gotten the attention that it needed to get and the and the resolution is forthcoming,” Sheets said.
The Virginia Department of Transportation has placed large signs near the entrances to the road to warn truckers of the sharp corners and narrow turns as a temporary solution to help solve the problem
